Crocodile hand!
LOL Crocodile Handee 🐊
We've been treated to a lovely new view on Al's cam. Unfortunately the cockatoos had been flipping the seed dish over, so Al put a brick in it, to weigh it down.
The finches and lorikeets didn't seem to mind and it did prevent the cockatoos flipping the dish, but didn't leave much room for seed. Al also wasn't happy with the aesthetics of the brick ...
So he replaced it today.
So far the finches and lorikeets have been loving it. Lots more room for the seed and the cockies have not appeared yet ...
With a few adjustments, it provides a very interesting view. I love it!
(Hope Joh doesn't mind that Al has used one of her elephants!)
I spoke too soon - the cockatoos have arrived - one on the feeder and one waiting in the background!
An hour or so later the elephant was nudged overboard! 😢 🤬
... and before too long another ellie appeared! ❤️
The cockies and lories weren't too impressed with the new Ellie!
It wasn't long before the second Ellie was pushed over, to the ground behind the stump.
Next came the Frog ...
But 'Froggie didn't last long either. ☹️
So it was back to the drawing board - and a rock appeared.
The Cockie was so startled when he saw the 'artwork' on the rock he raised his crest!
The Lorikeets weren't bothered by the drawing ...
But the Spotted Dove studied it closely. (What great camouflage the dove has!)
Lovely early morning visit from a pair of Rosellas today.
The little Red-browed Finches had been having a feast - but lingered on the far side of the rock while the Rosellas were there.
Of course, a Cockatoo showed up soon after the Rosellas left, claiming the rock as his!
Edited to add: Last visit that I found very appealing, before Al switched to a different cam view, was when this Cuckoo Dove posed on the rock - it would make a lovely garden ornament/statue!
Today Al switched the cam view to something to tempt the fruit eaters - an apple! And it wasn't long before the Lorikeets came:
In a couple of visits they managed to eat most of it!
Then the young/female Bowerbird appeared and took a few bites:
Edited to add: The last visitor was a Bulbul picking up some of the apple scraps:
Recent views on Alcam have seen a few birds we don't see on cam so often:
Fleeting glimpse of a King Parrot as it flew by
A Wattlebird dropped in for a brief moment, but the Lorikeets were close by and it didn't stay.
A few birds like to fly in and clean up the mess the Lorikeets leave behind, after demolishing an apple.
This currawong has been around too.
Also the Bowerbirds seem to like to drop in and clean up the leftovers!
A 'Christmas Bird' - the King Parrot showed up again today, to perch on the tree above the apple.
It flew off just before a Lorikeet landed to finish cleaning up the apple scraps!
Great picture all. Love them... 😍
Thanks for sharing with us.
Yes, Van, thanks for all the shots that we did not get to see earlier! Elsa, I see you got your Christmas parrot fix. 🦜
A surprise visitor to Al's Backyard apple today!
The lorikeets came and ate half of the apple, before this fellow showed up:
Then I could almost not believe my eyes when this stranger arrived - the impaled bowerbird that we first saw as a juvenile a few years back - nicknamed "Mr. Stick"!
You can see that as he bends down, the far end of the stick still protrudes (ruffling his feathers) on his back/shoulder area. The scarring beside his beak is probably from where the stick rubs when he bends down to eat. 🙁
Maybe he has a mate? This female arrived , while he backed off to allow her to eat a bit.
It didn't take him long to finish the apple!
